Brooklyn: Get thee to some Shakespeare

I'm psyched that I got tickets just in time to catch the As You Like It on Sunday, February 7th. It is part of the 2010 Bridge Project at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. From the BAM web site:
>>Following a critically acclaimed inaugural year, Tony and Academy Award-winning director Sam Mendes will again direct a transatlantic company of actors for the second season of The Bridge Project, a unique three-year series of co-productions by BAM, The Old Vic, and Neal Street devoted to producing large-scale, classical theater for international audiences.<<
I don't know if I had a serious opinion about Sam Mendes as a director before, but happened to see both The Winter's Tale and The Cherry Orchard--the 2009 Bridge Project bill--at the Old Vic in London last year and really enjoyed both nights. All of the actors were wonderful, and the direction was, as it should be, completely invisible. I was excited to see this happening again, conveniently in Brooklyn where I live.

I'll be back at BAM on March 9th for The Tempest.

On a side note, I noticed Sam Mendes is also attached to a movie in development called Netherland. I hope it is an adaptation of the excellent Joseph O'Neill novel!

iPad has actually been around since 2007

No Impact Man

We watched No Impact Man last night. The documentary follows Colin Beavan, his wife Michelle Conlin and their daughter Isabella through a year in which they change their lifestyle as much as possible to reduce their carbon footprint. One could certainly find flaws in these folks, but overall, I thought the experiment was interesting and admirable. Doesn't make me want to stop using electricity or toilet paper, but does reinforce my feeling that I should be doing more. Putting out the recycling every Friday (in a large plastic bag, no less) is not the most I can do.

Justin Timberlake singing Leonard Cohen

Love this song. The JT version is not the breathy, sexy version on Jeff Buckley's Grace, but lovely and heartfelt nonetheless.

Google Chrome 4.0

I've become addicted to using Chrome for browsing. I can hardly use anything else these days, though I'm sure I'd feel differently if I was a full time Mac user. I've become so blinded, it's hard for me to imagine people use other things. Of course, just checking web stats brings me back to reality a bit, but I have to wonder, who are all those people? And why are they still on IE 6 (or 7 or 8, what's the story with 9)? Or Firefox 2 (or 3.#)? OK, I know I'll hear about FF

What are you using?

Most exciting thing about new version of Google Chrome (4.0) for me is probably the bookmark sync. Doubt I'll know what to with much else of it. I'm sure I'll come around to the other features just in time for 5.0 to come out.
